Military and Police Units on Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Threat Mitigation Course

Background

Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) continue to cause destruction of livelihoods and loss of lives within conflict settings. This has led to civilian and military casualties within the peace operations. Because of this, the IED Threat Mitigation (IED-TM) RTP was developed to enhance the United Nations (UN) Mid-level Commanders and Staff Officers' awareness in mitigation capabilities within UN Missions. This is achieved by raising awareness on IED types, uses, threats and impact on Peace Support Operations (PSO) or hostile environments.

Aim

To enhance participants' knowledge of explosive hazards and provide them with skills for mitigating the threat of IEDs when planning operations within a threat environment. The IED-TM RTP was designed by UNMAS Mobile Team in collaboration with other bilateral partners. The Training Management Plan (TMP) will guide the respective training institutions in delivering their training.

Target audience

The intended recipient of this RTP are staff officers, commanders and planner of  Troop/Police Contributing Countries to UN Peacekeeping missions who may be exposed to an ERW/IED laden environment. This RTP is generic in nature. Exercises and scenarios have been built to provide a realistic learning experience.
